The inaugural workshop to support the Hydrogen Society Roadmap was held at the Two Oceans Aquarium, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town and virtually on 5 to 6 December 2022. The two-day workshop was attended by both domestic and global stakeholders and was held on the margins of the World Science Forum (WSF) as one of WSF’s official side events.
The purpose of the inaugural workshop was to report on the progress made to date in setting up South Africa’s first Hydrogen Valley as per the recommendations in the HSRM as well as to hear the successes and challenges faced by other countries in doing so. Furthermore, the workshop provided a platform for international speakers to present on their respective countries’ hydrogen valleys and learnings on how they successfully created them. Lastly, during the workshop discussions were held in order to understand how Green Hydrogen could become an enabler and be a lever for social justice in South Africa as it transitions to cleaner energy sources.
The inaugural workshop marked the beginning of a series of local and international roundtable engagements under the banner of the DSI-funded Science Diplomacy for Economic Development through Hydrogen (SDEDH). Minister Nzimande officially launched the SDEDH roundtables during the inaugural workshop on the 6th of December 2022
